GP input sought for National Suicide Prevention Trial

To understand care pathways within the region, Brisbane North PHN is seeking input from GPs who have supported people who are suicidal, who have attempted suicide or who are bereaved by suicide.

GPs are often a key touch point for people who are at-risk of suicide. GPs provide advice, referral and brief intervention for people who are at-risk of presenting to the emergency department as well as provide ongoing care for patients who are discharged from HHS facilities.

Brisbane North PHN has funded Beacon Strategies, in partnership with Wesley Mission Queensland, to develop a suicide prevention care pathway/s across and within the region.

This project aims to identify the current pathways to care for adults 18+ and then develop a product/s with high utility which maps these care pathways. There is a specific focus on pathways to care for the following three priority population groups:

  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
  • LGBTI communities
  • young adult to middle aged men (25-55yrs).
